Categories are linguistic wrappers of the something infinitely complex, are at most vast simplifications; abstractions that in no sense capture the nature, essence or quality of the phenomena of their focus but instead seek merely to situate those phenomena within a framework of logic. A framework of logic that, it should be said and without judgement, is ultimately entangled with aspirations for control, knowledge, power etc. Fields of aesthetic and scientific ‘research’ launch technological and social mechanics and assemblies that do demonstrate expanding competence to manipulate nature but limitations to the scale and site of these competencies may prove them ineffective at overcoming the vast magnitudes or multi-dimensionality of our universe, against which our dimensional-perceptive capacities, the limitations to knowledge and experience imposed by our finite organic construction and perceptive capacities simply have no defence and can ultimately only contemplate. For example, mortality, asteroids, star-death, extra-dimensional causalities – are now the focus of a desire for understanding, overcoming and control. Like recent theories in cosmology, it seems that inside of every beginning (hot big bang), or beyond every categorical limit (universe) we only encounter an infinitude of scales towards the infinitely small - sub-particles, matter and vibration - and the infinitely massive – an infinitude of hot big bang’s spanning an infinitude of time, an infinitude of universes spanning an infinitude of space.
