the architectural relevance of cybernetics


"...the structure of a city is not just the carapace of society. On the contrary, its structure acts as a symbolic control programme on par with the ritual constraints which are known to regulate the behaivour of various tribes and which render this behavior homeostatic rather than divergent. Hence, the architect is responsible for building conventions and shaping the development of traditions (this comment simply elevates the idea that a building controls its inhabitants to a higher level organization)."
